Mangalore: Residents of Mudipu, Balepuni , Kurnadu and other villages in GP jurisdiction have taken the assistance of TRV to prevent Infosys from drilling borewells in their areas, and formed squads to create public awareness about those violating public peace. Recently, TRV leader Jeppu Yogish Shetty took them into his fold and met the DC to express their agony and unhappiness against the IT giant, Infosys, which is building an office in Bantwal taluk at Mudipu, ignoring local people’s sentiments.
By digging borewells, Infosys was depriving farmers of their fertile lands and of drinking water, it was stated. The local people already had a drinking water shortage in summer and had to hire water carriers to supplement their needs.
The DC has assured them of taking suitable action in this connection. However, the TRV warned the authorities that if Infosys did not stop its anti-people activities in the name of widening its own sphere of business, steps will be taken on a long term, by Dharna and other means.
Several activists of TRV and people’s representatives of Mudipu were in the delegation that met the DC recently.
