Udupi : A youth was killed and six others sustained injuries in a head on collision between an Alto car and an Innova car  at Muloor near Kaup on NH 66 in the early hours of April 29, Monday.

The deceased is Shamit Shetty (27), son of Jayaram Shetty and Kushala Shetty from Mala village in Karkala taluk.  The mishap took place when Shamit was returning to Kaup with his relatives after taking part in a religious programme at Inna. The Alto was heading towards Kaup from Inna while the Innova was proceeding towards Mulki from Brahmavar. It is said the mishap took place when the Innova car driver lost control over the vehicle.

 Harish Shetty (32), his wife, Pratibha Shetty (28), child, Prapti (1), and relatives, Preetesh (15), Nidhi (5)  and Antony, who was driving Innova car,  were injured and have been admitted to a private hospital.

Reports said the BJP candidate Lalaji R Mendon who was passing that way assisted in shifting the injured to hospital. Meanwhile, the police did not arrive on time as the phone calls were not received reportedly because telephone lines were disconnected due to lightning strike.

The deceased Shamit was operating a poulty farm. Kaup police have registered a case.
