Mangalore : The election commission started its actual polling activities  as  about 8,575 polling officials started taking up their positions in different booths of the district.

Around 1,715 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were dispatched to as many polling stations.

Polling staff were stationed in 8 different centers of DK district and all the poll related materials were dispatched to the centers. They are, Canara High School, Urva, Canara College, Gokarnanath College, Mannagudda, Infant Jesus Higher Primary School, Modankapu, (Bantwal) SDM College, Ujire, Vivekananda High School, Puttur, Nehru Memorial College and Ramakrishna School at Buns hostel Mangalore.

According to a poll official, the testing of all the electronic voting machines were done and found to be in perfect order. Some additional voting machines were kept in reserve in case of any machine mal functioning.

The security personnel were also deployed in each polling booths and special care were taken in naxal affected area for the smooth conduct of polls, he added.
