Udupi : Situation in Uchila of Udupi was tense  when miscreants hurled a beer bottle  at the Jumma Masjid at Bhaskernagar on May 5 at around 9 m.

Hundreds of devout Muslims were inside the mosque when the incident took place. They rushed out of the mosque  to catch the miscreants who however had taken to their heels.

The incident led to tension in the area. That the incident occurred on election day  has  given room for doubt if it was done to disturb the communal tension.

Police arrived at the spot and took control of the situation.

Several political leaders including Congress leader MA Gafur and JD(S) leader Deviprasad Shetty also visited the spot.
