Puttur : Police who are investigating into the case of the death of one Girija Poojari (65) who was found in a roadside drain in Keyyur village, have arrested one Ananthesh (65) said to be a neighbour of the deceased woman. It is learnt, Ananthesh had killed Girija by hitting her head with a wooden club in order to snatch her gold.
Earlier, police had suspected that Girija had died of epileptic seizures or an accidental fall. But investigations later revealed that it was a murder for gain. It is learnt, Ananthesh had followed Girija when she was returning home from beedi branch and had hit her head with the wooden club. Later, he snatched her chain and fled. However, later he came to know that it was an artificial chain.
Sources said Girija lived in her brother’s house after she separated from her husband. Her neighbour Ananthesh who had financial difficulties thought he can solve his problems with Girija’s gold and killed her.
