Mangalore : Karmika Sena continues its hunger strike on the 5th day in front of D C Office against the shortage of medical and other staff as well as poor maintenance of the hospital on May 16, Thursday.
MLA of Mangalore South Constituency J R Lobo visited Suddattha Jain, president of Karmika Sene and spoke to him regarding the matter of ESI.
MLA asked Jain to call off his hunger strike, but Jain refused to do till the problem is not solved. He also said that he has been conducting hunger strike in regard to ESI problem from 2009 ad none of the representative or MLA have come down to ask his problem and was happy about Lobo’s visit.
Jain said that the medical officer in charge of the hospital had assured them that their demands will be soon met, but nothing so far has been sorted out. It was not only problem faced by workers in Mangalore but across the state, he added.
He also said that they have given a memorandum to DC N Prakash and in return DC had given a letter to Hospital administration for providing good medical facilities for labourers and Beedi workers, but the ESI director has not even respected it.
MLA J R Lobo said that he will call the meeting for public and hospital staffs and discuss the problem and try to give the solution as soon as possible. If they will not agree for it, then he would take the matter to the government level. I will also contact DC and authorities at higher level and talk about the problem, he added.
