Mangalore : Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo visited the Thumbay vented dam on May 17, Friday and inspected the water level in the dam. The visit of the MLA followed complaints that the city was facing water scarcity.
Speaking to reporters later, Lobo said there was sufficient water in the dam and that the city will not face water shortage this summer. He also said the water will last till the beginning of monsoon.
Clarifying on the water problem that cropped up in the city for a few days recently, he said it was due to a failure in the pump and disruption in power supply.
Even the pipeline connecting Panambur too had problem and the same has been repaired, Lobo said.
On the construction of the second vented dam at Thumbay which has not yet been completed, Lobo assured that the works will be over by March-April 2014. He said the delay was due to contractors. He said the work would be assigned to some other contractor if the delay continued.
City Corporation Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, Corporator Lancelot Pinto and others were present.
