Mangalore : The finals of the Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya, the first all-India Konkani dance contest, held at Kalaangann here on May 19, Sunday saw some scintillating performances by the top five teams in the duet and group categories which qualified for the finals.
The pair of Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran and the Silver Steppers’ dance troupe from Bejai Mangalore, bagged the first place in the two categories respectively.
The first runner-up position went to Pavinta Monteiro and Puneeth Monteiro from Kasargod. Nayana Prasanna Prabhu and Shwetha Bilgikar, Kumta, Honnavar and Akash Telgu and Aaditi Morajkar, Goa bagged the second and third runner-up title in the duet category. The first place winners got a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
The Silver Steppers which bagged the first place in group category received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a trophy, a gift hamper, certificate and bouquet. The other winners in this category are Drishti Art Centre, Bangalore, Adwitiya Dance Company, Vasai, Mumbai, Team Kayyar from Kasargod and Nayana Prasanna & party, Kumta, Honnavar.
Ronald Colaco, NRI Entrepreneur distributed prizes to the winners. JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South,who was the chief guest, awarded prizes to the winners.
Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann,Fr Vincent D’Souza, parish priest of Bela, Ronald Mendonca, Chairman of Governing Council, Kalangann, Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhann, Roy Castelino, President of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Avil D’Cruz of Nach Sobhann and others were present.
