Mangalore : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner N Prakash has directed the Assistant Commissioners and Tahsildars of the respective areas to ensure adequate water supply to several rural areas of the district.
Addressing a meeting of district and taluk level officials at his office here on May 22, Wednesday, the DC while drawing attention of the authorities towards the water problems of Mulki, urged for immediate action on the part of the ACs, Tahsildars, ZP, TMC and Town Panchayat officials to solve water problems in various areas on a priority basis.
With monsoons likely to enter district very soon, the DC directed officials to see to it that all side drains and canals in city limits are cleaned up. He also directed the taluk level committee headed by the Assistant Commissioner to hold a meeting by May 25 to initiate precautionary measures to prevent monsoon eventualities.
The DC further said a 24 hour control room should also start functioning in MCC, Police Department and taluk offices. The officials were also directed to keep an emergency aid team comprising home guards, fire service personnel, swimmers and boats ready to aid public. The authority to grant leave to schools taking into view the rain conditions,was given to the respective Block Education Officers.
