Mangalore : There was a lightning protest by autorickshaw drivers near the railway colony close by the Muttappan Temple on May 24, Friday evening, after the windshield of an autorickshaw was broken by a traffic cop by mistake.
It is learnt, one Moidin, an autorickshaw driver was taking some passengers to the railway station when the traffic cop asked him to stop near the Muttappan Temple. As the passengers were alighting, the traffic cop wielded his lathi which hit the windshield and broke it. As news spread autorickshaw driver staged protest demanding action against the cop and also steps to repair the same.
Even Ivan D’Souza, President of the Autorickshaw Drivers Union took part in the protest. Finally Inspector CN Diwaker arrived and assured to get the autorickshaw repaired. Still the protestors warned that they would resort to severe protest if the auto was not repaired in three days.
