Mangalore : Deep sea fishing has been banned in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for a period of 57 days beginning from June 15 to August 10. An order issued by the Government of Karnataka said fishing in mechanized boats using nets is banned.
The rough sea and inclement weather during monsoon is the reason for the ban in fishing. Meanwhile, deep sea trawlers which go on fishing for longer durations can do so from August 3 subject to the condition that they should return only after the ban period ends on August 10.
