Kundapur : School times are not happy times for students of the Rathabeedi Government Lower Primary School at Gangolli.
They have every reason for it. A fish market is located close by the school and the effluents from this market enters the school compound bringing along with it a foul smell making it difficult for students to attend classes and concentrate on studies.
The school is also facing drinking water problem. Though there is a bore well, the rusted tap has made it difficult for students to avail water from here. The school has classes from first to fifth standards but has only three rooms.
To add to the problem, fish sellers are even using the rear portion of the school compound to answer nature’s call. Besides the discarding of wastes and even liquor bottles in the area, had added to the trouble.
The school is also devoid of a good playground and even a compound wall, despite it being close by the main road.
