Mangalore : The DK District Working Journalists Union has requested State Minister for Forests and District Minister Ramanatha Rai to withdraw cases registered against two media men in the homestay attack case.
A delegation of the Union met the Minister on June 8, Saturday and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.
The memorandum has pointed out that the freedom of press has been curtailed by arresting the media men who had been to the home stay to report the incident.
It also said that journalist Naveen Soorinje has been granted bail, while another TV cameraman is still behind bars since six months. The past BJP government has failed to keep up its promise to drop charges, it said.
The delegation included PB Harish Rai, President of the Association, Srinivas Indaje, General Secretary, Yogish Holla, Treasurer, Ramakrishna R, Press Club President and Kiran Sirsikar, General Secretary.
