Bhopal  : A 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a minor boy, set herself ablaze in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, police said on Saturday. The girl has sustained burn injuries and has been hospitalised.

According to the victim’s statement, the incident took place on Wednesday when the minor entered the girl’s house, knowing her family had gone out. “He then raped her,” Sub Divisional Officer of Police OP Singh said, “She has suffered grievous injuries and has been hospitalised. The accused tried to wrap her in a blanket to put out the fire, said OP Singh.

When family members returned, they admitted the girl to the nearest primary health center from where she was referred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa.

According to sources, the victim’s condition is said to be critical. The minor boy had fled from the spot after committing the crime.

Later he was arrested by MP Police on Thursday and has been charged with rape. Further investigation is underway.
