Udupi: The Nagarika Samithi of Udupi led by Nityananda Olakadu is known for the several novel protests staged as well as novel programmes organized. On June 2, Saturday, the Samithi organized a Namakarana ceremony (Naming ceremony) for frogs with the belief that doing so would bring rains at the earliest. The ceremony was arranged in the wake of the severe water scarcity facing several parts of the district due to absence of rains.
At the ceremony held at Hotel Kidiyoor premises, the baby frogs, total six of them were placed in cradles and were named ‘Maleraya.’ Later, the frogs were set free at Nayarakere.Several members of the Samithi and the general public were present on the occasion.
