Mangalore: The inaugural function of Epitome 2011, an IT Fest (upto April 1) at national level, had its run on Thursday, March31) at the AIMIT campus of St. Aloysius College.
The Dean of IT Dept., Prof.Santhosh Rebello, welcomed the invitees and dignitaries. He dwelt on the changing global scenario in Information Technology (IT) field and on the contribution of AIMIT towards higher education.
Fr.Denzil Lobo, Director of AIMIT, speaking on the occasion, said anyone could compete with anyone else, as the world was flat. A good environment only can produce a successful leader. A candidate for leadership needs passion in achieving greater heights in anything he is involved in or wanted to do. The Greek word ‘Epitome’ summarizes this feeling.
Arun Jose, a student Convenor, introduced Fr.Oswald Mascarenhas as the chief guest of the inaugural event of Epitome.
Fr.Oswald informed the gathering that Information Technology was recent activity, born from Cuban Missiles Crisis of 1962.
The 1962 crisis gave importance to sharing information among individuals. Fr.Osawald asked what next in IT world. He then suggested that our 5 senses could be transmitted through computers. He added that corporate frauds and institutional bribery could be checked, before they actually manifested, with IT assistance.
Fr,Joseph Rodrigus SJ, Rector of SAC, Mangalore delivered the presidential address. He referred to moral values guarded by and growth achieved by SAC in 130 years now. He urged the students to be better individuals with compassion. He added Devine quotient to learning. He cited the example of Google founders, Brian Page and his men, who had ideas, big dreams and compassion for all.
Prof. Rakesh Kumar proposed the vote of thanks. The Epitome has 25 teams from across the country and concludes on Friday (Tomorrow, April1).
