Mangalore: A first-ever Family Court was opened on the premises of district court premises here on Monday by D&S Judge H.R Deshpande.
After the inauguration, speaking before lawyers the District (DK) and sessions Judge Deshpande asked the lawyers and judicial officers to work together to render effective service to the litigants as people at present look to the Judiciary to reduce their grievances, social or economic. He pointed to the huge backlog of cases which delayed delivery of justice to the parties concerned.
Judge Deshpande informed his audience that that 24 court employees were appointed to the new (Family) Court. In future, family disputes pending in civil courts would be taken up in this court. Somehow, the need for more such family courts has become necessary, but to make them useful, disputes here needed to be looked into faster.
In several district headquarters, the family cases languish at the district courts, already burdened with cases. A priority in hearing and an early settlement have to be arranged fast, he added.
Family Court Judge Padmaraj Desai in his remarks underscored speedy justice in this new court, which would play its role of mediator to prevent divorce cases, as also such other applications for justice.
Advocate P.P Hegde and MBA Chief S.P Chengappa were present on the occasion.
