Mangalore : Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), chairman A. S. Sadashivaiah inaugurated the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) belonging to the Fishmeal and Oil Manufacturers’ Association (FOMA) at Kotepura Ullal.
Speaking after inaugurating the Plant, Mr. Sadashivaiah appreciated FOMA for its initiative and said that only Doddaballapura, Bangalore, and Mangalore have such CETPs.
He also said that the plant which is inaugurated is capable of processing 400 kilo litres of waste per day, considerably reducing the pollution caused by the effluents released by these factories. The government has taken several measures to reduce pollution near the sea in order to protect coastal area from oil spills, he added.
The town needs to adopt scientific methods and the garbage produced in Mangalore can be used to produce 10 – 13 MHz of energy, Salem and Pune are successfully producing electricity from waste.
Mangalore MLA U. T. Khader, FOMA President Shawkath Showry, BJP leader Chandrahas Ullal, and KSPCB board member Vijaykumar were also present on the occasion.
