Mangaluru : In a road accident two students were seriously injured, a five-year-old girl lost an arm, and 24 suffered minor injuries when a school bus overturned twice at Paduvari in Othinene village in Kundapur taluk on Thursday.
The police said the school bus belonging to HMMS English Medium School, Byndoor, was going from Shiroor to Byndoor, when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve at Paduvari around 8.45 a.m. The bus overturned twice.
The bus had 36 students in it. The left arm of Vidaha, a UKG student, got crushed, while Shahrukh and Afan Umanr were seriously injured. They were taken to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
K. Annamalai, Assistant Superintendent of Police, told that the doctors had to amputate Vidaha’s hand. The other two students were recovering, he said.
The remaining 24 students received treatment at the Chinmayi Hospital in Kundapur. Raghavendra, driver of the bus, was also injured and has been admitted to Chinmayi Hospital in Kundapur. The bus was carrying students from Shiroor, Kesarkodi and Alandur to Byndoor.
A case has been booked under Sections 279, 337, 338 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 177 of Motor Vehicle Act at Byndoor police station and investigations were on, the police said.
The parents of the children took the school management to task for negligence and for not giving proper information about their children. Sub-Inspector Santosh Kaikini and Special Tahsildar Hanume Gowda intervened to control the situation.
Mr. Annamalai said the police had booked a case of negligence against the bus driver and the school management for carrying more students than capacity. Stern action would be taken against such erring schools, he warned.
