Kundapur : A teenage student committed suicide by hanging himself after his family did not heed to his demand for a cell phone.

The incident took place at Kakkunje within Kota police station limits on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Pratheeksh (16), a first year commerce department student of the PU College at Bidkalkatte.

Watching other students in his college, flashing cell phones, Pratheeksh desired to have his own cell phone. So he forcefully demanded a mobile phone from his poor family who could not afford it.

Distressed on not having his demand fulfilled, the teenager waited till the home was left alone for him and then proceeded to commit suicide by hanging.

He leaves behind his parents and a younger sister.
