Mangalore, May 7: A total of 962 drinking water projects have been completed in the district at the a cost of Rs 51.79 crores, in order to tackle the drinking water problem, said Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Tulasi Maddineni.
Speaking at the meeting convened at the Netravathi Auditorium of the Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday May 7, under the presidentship of DK in-charge Secretary Bharatlal Meena, she said that many projects including 126 bore wells, 38 minor water supply projects, 5 hand pump bore wells, five open wells, water supply to 67 schools and 72 Anganavadis.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that due to disruption in electricity supply, few rural areas are facing water problems. In turn Bharatlal Meena directed MESCOM officials to replace the transformers that are out of order.
He also said that natural calamities occurred in 2014, claimed seven lives and five cattle. Apart from it, four persons have suffered injuries and around 79 houses have been collapsed.
