Mangalore : A 25-year-old woman from Bantwal had filed a complaint against an associate professor in the department of commerce of Mangalore University of raping her from one year over the false promise of marriage.
Reportedly, a woman, who was studying Kodava language under associate professor Vedava P in a complaint, stated that he had sexually assaulted her at her house at Kaikunje in Bantwal taluk on June 2, 2013 in the absence of her family. When she opposed he threatened her of dire consequences and later promised to marry her.
Woman in her complaint filed to vice-chancellor of the University K Byrappa stated that, the Professor later took her to various hotels, beaches and parks where he raped her. She also said that he used to visit her house frequently and went back on his words.
Mangalore University Registrar P S Yadapadithaya confirmed that the woman had submitted the complaint to the VC.
Based on the complaint, the university has sought explanation from Professor Vedava and university will take action after depending on his explanation which is not yet received.
The Konaje police have registered a case against the professor under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and filed an FIR before the Senior Civil Judge Court, Bantwal.
Bantwal Town Police will conduct the further investigation.
