Kasargod : Manjeshwar police have taken a woman into custody for allegedly killing her one and half month-old daughter in Uppala on Tuesday, September 12.
The woman has been identified as Sumangali (33), the daily wage worker Sathyanarayana’s wife. The kid was the couple’s first child, and they live in Pachilampara, a village in Mangalpady panchayat, close to Uppala.
According to reports, the woman is accused of drowning her daughter in a paddy field near their residence. This tragic event transpired around 2:30 p.m. When nearly two hours passed without any sight of the mother or child, the family initiated a search.
To their shock, they discovered the mother in the paddy field, with her child in one hand, dousing her with water with the other. They had to retrieve the infant from the paddy field to rush her to the Manjeshwar Taluk Hospital in Mangalpady. Unfortunately, the medical staff declared the child as “brought dead.”
The woman has been taken into custody and Inspector T P Rajeesh, the station house officer for Manjeshwar, has initiated an investigation into the infant’s tragic demise.
An official has mentioned that the couple had frequent arguments, but they also suspect that the woman might have been suffering from postpartum depression.
