New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal and his anti-corruption group will formally launch their political outfit ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Monday.
The group had last week announced the name of the new political party. Activist turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal had then said that the aim of the party was to give gram sabhas more say in law-making and making higher judiciary accessible to common man.
The party’s national executive held its first meeting on Sunday at member Prashant Bhushan’s house to decide its office-bearers. After deliberations, it was decided that Arvind Kejriwal would be the party’s national convener.
Pankaj Gupta was elected as the national secretary and Krishna Kant Sanju as the treasurer. The national executive will have 30 members in total.
Seats would be reserved for those from the backward communities and women, if found under-represented. As of now, the executive has just two women, Shazia Ilmi and Christina Samy.
“Aam Aadmi will contest elections, aam aadmi will vote and aam aadmi will go to Parliament. This party will change the way politics and political parties function in the country,” Kejriwal said.
Eyeing the next year’s assembly polls and the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Kejriwal made a passionate plea to youth to join him full-time to bring about a revolutionary change in the country’s political system.
The activist-turned-politician also attacked the Congress and the BJP saying they “used” people only to get votes and never bothered about them.
