Mangaluru : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Activists took out a procession in the city on Thursday to celebrate the victory of the party in Delhi Assembly elections.
Holding torch lights and beating drums – with some carrying the party’s symbol the broom – they marched from Ambedkar Circle to Town Hall where they garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the garden of the Mangaluru City Corporation.
The procession was taken out via Balmatta, Hampankatta Junction and A.B. Shetty Circle. Some of them, who wore face masks of the party leader Arvind Kejariwal, burst crackers near the town hall.
While gathering in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue, they shouted “Indu Delhi Nale Illi” (Today Delhi, tomorrow here). They shouted slogans implying that the AAP is the party of future generation.
Speaking on the occasion, AAP activist Imtiyaz said that the Delhi election results had shown the power of common persons. Now there was onus on the part of people in Mangaluru to build the party and replicate the success of Delhi, he said.
Another activist Alexander D’Souza said people in Delhi had broken the barrier of caste by electing the AAP with absolute majority. The same should happen here.
The party candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Dakshina Kannada and the former director of Mangaluru International Airport M.R. Vasudeva also took part.
