Mangaluru: The state government would construct a memorial building, ‘Abbakka Bhavana’ at a cost of Rs 8 crore in Thokottu commemorating the contribution of coastal queen Veerarani Abbakka, said Karnataka State Food and Civil Supplies Minister UT Khader inaugurating the two day Veerarani Abbakka Festival- 2017 here at Asaigoli ground on Saturday. The event was organized in the memory of brave queen of Tulu Nadu Abbakka.
Speaking to the gathering the minister said that, earlier it was decided to construct the memorial building at a cost of Rs 5 crore, however according to the plan, at present the project requires Rs 8 crore.
Veerarani Abbakka festival will be organized as like other government sponsored festivals like Hampi festival and others in coming years by the state government, the minister assured the gathering. The two day long Veerarani Abbakka festival is being organized by Karnataka state Kannada and Culture Department.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr KG Jagadeesha, Tahsildar Mahadevappa and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
