Mangalore : Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi will host ‘Abbakka Half Marathon – 2013’ as a part of ‘Veerarani Abbakka decennial celebration’ from Bharath Higher Primary School ground, Ullal on February 9, 2013 at 7 am.

Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Jan 29, Tuesday, committee working president Dinakar Ullal said that Laxmi Kumaran, DGM, MRPL will inaugurate the half marathon. The marathon will comprise of 21.462 km distance and the winner of the Marathon will be awarded with cash prize on the same day in the evening formal inauguration ceremony.

The marathon will commence from Ullala Abbakka Circle through Thokkottu, Natekal, K C Raod, Beeri, Kotekar, Kolya, Ambika Road, Over bridge, Thokkottu city, Ullal Dargah, Ullal Municipality road, Abbakka Circle and conclude at Bharath Higher Primary School ground.

The committee will hand over prize to ten winners spending the total cash award of Rs 73,000.

The first winner will receive RS 20,000, second winner will receive Rs 15,000, third winner with Rs 10,000, fourth with Rs 7,000, fifth with Rs 6,000, sixth with Rs 5,000, seventh with Rs 4,000, eighth with Rs 3,000, ninth with Rs 2,000, tenth with Rs 1,000. The participants who will complete the marathon will be given the certificate, he added. He also said that on Jan 30, Wednesday, the committee in association with leaders from various parties will stage the protest in front of DC Office demanding the state government and central government to rename Mangalore International Airport to ‘Rani Abbakka International Airport’.
