Mangalore : The members of Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha concluded their hunger strike on October 22, Saturday after receiving a assurance from Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat, to solve the problems in ESI hospital within a month.
Sudatta Jain, general secretary of ABSK, launched the hunger strike on October 18a and withdrew when Mr Bhat offered him orange juice after 103-hour-long agitation.
Various demands like providing infrastructure, appointment of doctors, and provision of check-up facility for ESI card holders at all hospitals, were putforth before the officials.
Mr Bhat instructed ESI superintendent Dr Ashok Kumar to undertake the measures and rectify the problems.
He said that if the hospital does not provide facilities to ESI card holders, the issue will be discussed in the cabinet.
Mr Jain said that if demands were niot met in a week’s time, they would protest in front of Mr Bhat’s house.
