Mangalore: Four members of ABKS (Sudatta Jain, Santosh Kaptar, Raju Kulal and Chandrahasa Shetty) who went on a sympathetic 3-day fasting, supporting Anna Hazare’s similar performance in Bandra Kurla grounds of MMRD Authority in Mumbai on Dec 27, had to cut short the fast on second day itself, as Hazare was sick and had called off all programmes of protest and fasting, pressing for a stronger Lokpal Bill than the one that was passed in Lok Sabha but failed in Rajya Sabha.
The 3-day fast ended on Thursday evening (Dec 29), well before the period originally planned here, near DCO gates in a busy locality.
The four volunteers of Akhila Bharath Karmika Sangha (ABKS) then marched towards Gandhi vana, near Town Hall and garlanded the white statue of Father of the Indian nation, before returning home.
Sudatta, District general Secretary, ABKS was unhappy about Team Anna’s decision to call off the protest hunger strike midway, when thousands were ready to continue it, to the end as on Dec 29. Even the Dharna in front of Sonia G’s house was called off in Delhi. Crowds in Mumbai and Delhi this time were not in large numbers, falsifying expectations.
