Mangalore : The Kargil war was fought by India under the Vajpayee govt, in Jammu – Kashmir against Pakistan Army invaders who entered Indian borders and occupied hill regions around Kargil in 1999. it was a bloody war that saw over 500 of Indian warriors dead from all over India to push the invaders back into Pakistan inflicting thousands of them death and injury. The final victory that belonged to India is celebrated every year by ABVP (students’ Federation of BJP) and this year its 12th celebration was held in city at the Jyothi Circle today.
Vinay Gaonkar, Inspector in charge of Bunder (North) police station, offered flowers in memory of the martyrs of kargil to their photos, to celebrate the victory in the battles around Indian western boarders in Jammu region.
The DK dt, leader of ABVP, Purushottam, speaking on the occasion, demanded better border safety measures than ever before, with latest weapons to fight the enemy and greater vigilance against incursions. On both sides of India, enemies China and Pakistan are ever contemplating attacks on the borders and want to loot our lands. The defence systems guarding our borders need further improvements, to prevent enemies’ entry, he opined.
It is not only students of ABVP, but all Indian citizens should take part in Kargil victory day celebrations and remember the martyrs who paid with their lives protect India, he added.
City Secretary Pawan, organizer Vinay Jadav, leaders Mahesh (SDM College), Sujith (Gokarnanath), V. Mahantesh (SDM), Vikram (Besant) among other activists were present at the Martyrs’ rally.
