The Sahyadri college students began the agitation leading to Bundh. Our 1500 students prevents traffic on Adyar road on Kankandy outskirts in city since morning. They shouted slogans to remove Dr. Maheshappa as Vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University in Belgaum, as he was “not qualified”.
The Highway at Adyar was blocked by angry students.
ABVP Secretary K. Ramesh who spoke on the occasion, regretted Corruption seen even in a technical University, right at the beginning it was supposed to bring about a massive change in state engineering circles.
He questioned Dr. M. how he could tell lies on his own educational qualifications. The state High court had asked the Governor (as Chancellor) to remove the V-C, but the Governor hesitates to do right thing even now.
There is a plan to appoint a committee to probe the matter. Where is such a need, he (Ramesh) asked the rally.
He condemned the move to appoint a retired Judge from Madhya Pradesh to go into this episode, but by then the V-C would have retired! There are reports about the Judge’s own corrupt practices, and unsuitability to hold a probe.
It was a conspiracy against available judges in Karnataka, where can do a better report.
The Police arrived on the scene of students rally and arrested the ABVP leaders in a mass. Mahesh, Sujit, Theerthesh, and sudden were in lock-up later they were freed from Kankandy rural station.
However students in large numbers, boycotted their engineering classes. 9 colleges in DK were desolate.
Several protest meetings were held in Taluks, with students leaders participating like the politicians creating trouble.
