Mangaluru : Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took out processions in the city on Wednesday against the Yettinahole diversion project.
In the city shouting slogans against the project they marched from the Ambedkar Circle to the office of Deputy Commissioner. At B. C. Road they took out a procession from Polali Dwara to the Tahsildar’s office. They also formed human chain and staged a street play at B.C. Road.
They submitted sealed “bindiges” (vessels) containing Netharavati water to the Deputy Commissioner in the city and to Bantwal Tahsildar at B.C. Road. They were meant to be sent to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to understand the pain of people of Dakshina Kannada.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the ABVP termed the project as unscientific. It said the government beginning civil works of the project without consulting people of the downstream district of Dakshina Kannada gave scope for many doubts. It said the government should stop the project till a consensus was arrived at. The government should get the views of experts on the pros and cons of the project.
The government should chalk out alternative plans to supply water to the parched districts, it said.
