Mangalore: The All India students Federation (ABVP) has demanded in release on Tuesday the sacking of Dr. Maheshappa, VC of VTU in Belgaum in view of state HC order that has gone against his credential and selection to the high post.
The court judged that it did not want to get involved with the state Governor who appointed Dr. Maheshappa as VC, in his capacity as the chancellor. The court suggested that the Vice-chancellor should resign on his own, for falling short in standard. But the Governor defied court sanctions and took no action, ABVP said.
The ABVP asked if it was worth while to borrow the services of a tainted education, or was it a secret plan to wait till he retired, in a few months?
ABVP is left to wonder what makes the chancellor (Governor) to protect Dr. Maheshappa, show so much concern for him.
ABVP felt the tainted V-C was seriously affecting the sanctity of the Visvessvaraya Technological University. It was improper for him to continue in the Belgaum office. The silence of the state Govt. in this matter also was rather questionable and intriguing, ABVP added.
AVBP has asked for the removal of Dr. Maheshappa by the state Governor. Thousands of engineering students would go on a strike led by ABVP if “inaction” continues both ways (Governor and Govt.)
