Mangalore : The State government has introduced ‘Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Insurance Scheme’ through Karnataka State Unorganized Labourers Social Security Board. The scheme covers drivers with commercial private vehicle driving license including auto rickshaws, taxi, maxicab, lorry and private buses. Beneficiaries need not pay the premium amount, which is borne by the government.
Under this scheme, a motorist will get insurance not only if his vehicle involves in accident while he is driving, but also when he meets with an accident while travelling in other vehicles. Insurance is available even in case of accidental injuries. However, it is not applicable in case of natural death or suicides.
Application forms are available at all Nemmadi Kendras. The applicants will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 25. The premium will be paid by the government itself.
In case of death in accident, then the family will get Rs 2 lakhs, in case of permanent disability a Rs 2 lakh compensation is provided.
