Mangalore : The case wherein a police officer allegedly threatened a Dalit girl, who had complained against a few Bhajrangdal activists who threatened her, was prominently discussed at the SC/ST grievance redressal meet held in Mangalore on May 13, Sunday.
Several Dalit leaders present at the meeting, also demanded action against Kadaba SI Rukmaya Gowda.
The incident is learnt to have taken place on April 26, when the girl Manjusha along with one Tajuddin, who worked with her, was on way to see a sick relative at Guttigar, in the latter’s car only to be intercepted by the Bhajrangdal activists who attacked Tajuddin. Though Manjusha tried to escape in an auto, she was followed, dragged out of the auto and forced to complain against Tajuddin stating he tried to rape her.
Guruvappa Kallugudde, a Dalit leader who was present at the meeting said he somehow persuaded Manjusha to tell the truth before the police after which she lodged a complaint against Bhajrangis. Three men were arrested following this and Tajuddin who was earlier arrested was released, he informed.
The girl Manjusha who was also present, narrated the incident before the meeting. The leaders said the Kadaba SI had been to Manjusha’s house on April 28 and abused her in foul language for complaining against Bhajrangis.
SP Abhishek Goel chaired the meeting.
