Mangalore: publicity campaign was conducted by CPI(M)-DK district unit on 19-04-2011at noon near DCO gates, and picketing was done by its large members as a mark of protest against the total failure of Karnataka and Central Govts to check corruption and provide good governance by attending to the burning problem of common people at large. The picketing programme was also conducted at the various 5 taluk offices in DK Dt.
B.Madhava, Secretary (DK Unit) addressed the gathering, accused the politicians of making a mess of their jobs in Karnataka and at the Centre. These corrupt politicians have given a bad name to the state and India in a series of scandals that rocked the legislature and also Parliament on several issues for whole session (at New Delhi) and for days in a Bangalore. The two different national party governments failed to curb price rise and inflation that tormented common man.
Madhava pointed out that lakhs of families, especially younger generations and the poor, have no houses to live in. The govt. wants to kill the PDS that protects BPL families. Protestors voices are sought to be curbed by bogus ration card holders and false LPG licenses. Minimum wages are denied to unorganized labour all over the state. Implementations of pension schemes by the Govt. have been defective, he urged.
Poor people demand housing sites. Rich realtors rob the vacant lands for luxury apartments. There are no title deeds for ‘Ashraya’ housing schemes. Denotification of land by CM and his colleagues in the govt. have paved way for enrichment of capitalist tendencies, he lashed out.
BJP promises on 1KG of rice at Rs.2 for card holders are not implemented, Madhava lamented.
Labour leaders K.R Shreeyan, Sunil Bajal, U.B Lokaya, Krishnappa Salian and Muneer Katipalla also spoke on the occasion and were present in the march to DCO. 250 protestors were taken into custody by the police. They were shifted to jail by using some private buses and later set free.
