Mangaluru : Senior Congress leader and former Union minister B. Janardhana Poojary has said that the government should address the problems of police constables on humanitarian grounds. Referring to the proposed police strike to be held on June 4, at a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Poojary noted that even after a decade of service, a constable in the State took home only about Rs. 18,000 per month, whereas constables in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana earned Rs. 35,000 per month.
He added that the living quarters of State police constables were in a pathetic condition. Mr. Poojary reiterated that particularly on humanitarian grounds, it was not right for the government to threaten action against the constables without looking into their demands first.
