Mangaluru: ‘Adulteration of food is rampant in the district and food safety is a major concern. We need more officers in this regard to control the food adulteration. An increased awareness will help to prevent exploitation of consumers’ said M J Salian, President of DK District Federation for consumer organizations and urged students to develop a greater awareness about Consumer Rights.
He was speaking after Inaugurating the Certificate Course on Consumer Rights at Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal on Wednesday, August 03. The Programme was jointly organised by Consumer and Human Rights Cell of GovindaDasa College and DK district Federation for Consumer Organisations.
Salian said that the awareness on Consumer Rights in the District was not satisfactory. Everyday consumer rights are being violated in various ways. There are 64 Consumer clubs in various High schools in the district and 6 colleges are conducting Certificate Course on Consumer Rights and creating awareness among students.
Vice Principal Prof. Krishnamurthy, who was present as the chief guest, congratulated the President and members of DKDFCO, who created consumer awareness in the district. He advised the students to develop themselves as activists to question the Public Authorities if they failed to protect the interests of the people as per the provisions of law. Public officials are servants, not the masters. So students should raise their voice against all forms of injustices he asserted.
Dr.Ashaltha.P, the Course Co-Ordinator and Resource Person for the State level Campaign of National Law Shool of India Iniuversity, Bangalore for ‘Ambedkar for Youth and Democracy’, presented the Annual Report of Consumer Certificate Course 2015-2016.
Dr.Muralidhara Rao, the Principal of the College, Presided over the Function. Ramdev Kunjoor, Director of Rotary Club, Surathkal, Student leaders Sajida, Deekshitha, Joylin, Samskrithi were present on the occasion.
