Mangalore : Advocate members of the Mangaluru Bar Association on Wednesday boycotted the court proceedings in protest against Commissioner of Police’s order to revoke suspension of Inspector T.D. Nagaraj.
Inspector Mr. Nagaraj had been accused of assaulting advocate Uttam Rai in the former’s chamber in Mangaluru East police station on August 1. The advocate has also been accused of assaulting Mr. Nagaraj and causing obstruction to officer’s discharge of duty. Following the allegation and protest by advocates, Police Commissioner S. Murugan ordered suspension of Mr. Nagaraj pending disciplinary proceedings.
On Wednesday, an order was issued to revoke suspension of Mr. Nagaraj and post him to Bajpe police station.
Questioning the order of Mr. Murugan, Mangaluru Bar Association S.P. Chengappa said, suspension had been revoked in haste and without proper inquiry. Mr. Chengappa said serious charges had been made against Mr. Nagaraj. How can an officer be posted to a police station. A writ petition has been filed questioning Mr. Murugan’s order, he said. Terming the decision of Mr. Murugan unfortunate, P.P Karnataka Bar Association Chairman P.P. Hegde said, the action would tantamount to support of State government to an official accused of assaulting an advocate.
