Mangalore: If the younger generations, now in majority in India under 35 years of age, understood social values and moral fortitude, they can live as good citizens of this country, and also bring to zero-growth, the new AIDS patients, those infected with HIV, deaths due to sex diseases, and reduce differences of HIV –TAINTED PERSONS, SAID DK-ZP-CEO, Dr. K.N. Vijay Prakash on Nov 30 at Roshni Nilaya in city.
He had inaugurated world AIDS Day programme and “just one step’ awareness movement based on it.
If youths took the right path in developing their personalities and capacities with dignity, they could achieve their ambitious aims and control AIDS socially the ZP-CEO added.
The district administration is ready to provide all help/facilities to HIV tainted persons and sex workers under various schemes of last year. There are 52 such applicants on hand. 200 sex workers have been identified for housing and rehabilitation.
They are also being involved in constructive schemes to be self-employed or self-reliant.
The ZP CEO distributed pamphlets symbolically to cover auto-rickshaw drivers in this basic matter, by delivering a hand out top Monthu Lobo, a senior auto rickshaw driver.
Ms. Sofia Fernandes, Principal of the College of social work, presided. She spelled out the secrets of a successful living to the students, besides advising them that if they led a decent life, they can build a strong nation full of capable youngsters, as leaders.
District “Aids” controller, Dr. Kishore Kumar spoke initially on the significance of the event. He said the world had 33.30 million HIV-tainted persons, of whom 23 lakhs were in India, and 2.5 lakhs in Karnataka. Dakshina Kannada district had 275 such women awaiting delivery, and 5,177 others out of about 5,452 HIV tainted persons.
