Mangaluru: The DK District unit of the Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha staged a protest on September 21, Friday in support of their several demands including construction of a hostel for beedi workers.
They also demanded shutting down of massage parlours, pubs, skill game centres and such other unlawful activities. The protestors burnt an effigy of the Labour Department to vent their ire against the authorities for not fulfilling their demands.
Labour leader Sudatta Jain Shirthady who addressed the protestors said the several agitations held to prevail upon the authorities to construct a hospital for beedi workers have been futile. Even the appeal made to the DC has not yielded any result, he said.
District President of Karmika Sangha Santosh Kavoor, General Secretary Raju Kulal and others were present.
