Mangalore, July 12, 2012: Akshaya Patra of ISKCON had organized a workshop for the media representatives titled “Media 2 Media” based on the theme “fighting hunger – freeing minds” at Press Club Hall on July 12, Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Karunya Sagar Dasa, president of the Akshaya Patra of Mangalore unit said that Akshya Patra plays a major role in education.
He also said that the media covers the news of bomb blast and sensationalize it, but they are least bothered about the children who are starving without having proper food. In this situation the media do not concentrate on such public interest news, he said.
He said that many children in our country do not get education. The hunger and socio-cultural barriers becomes the main reason to discourage parents from giving education to their children.
Senior Deccan Herald journalist Shrinivas Sirnoorkar participated as the resource person. He said that hunger problem is really haunting the country, hence more number of die of hunger compared to AIDS or cancer.
He also said that world comprises of 92 crore constantly hungry people very day and 10 million people die of hunger every year.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session.
