Mangalore: Security arrangements by armed constabulary and baton-swinging police in DK and Udupi districts have been strengthened to see that no untoward violent incident takes place in public. While Karnataka is free from Naxal troubles in 2010, the same cannot be said of communal flare-ups and political hatred in the coastal areas.

The local police have taken out route marches to warn anti-social elements in society in sensitive areas like Ullal. Patrolling will be conducted round the clock in all coastal taluks. Cinemas will remain closed on Sept.30 after 12 noon. Bursting fire crackers, or holding gatherings of 5 or more (under Sn.144) have been prohibited to maintain a serious situation. Children will be at home on Thursday and Friday.
