Mangalore: Students led by the All College Students Association have embarked on a day’s hunger strike in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on November 10, Saturday demanding a CBI probe into the rape and murder case of Ujire SDM College student Sowjanya. The strike has been organized to also demand action against all those responsible for the death of Deepika, a student of St Ann’s College who died allegedly due to medical negligence.
The protest is led by Dinaker Shetty, Legal Advisor of the Association. Uttam Alva, President of the Association, Prateek JP, Shifalraj, Rahulraj, Prakash, Karthik Nayak, Nagarjuna. Rakshith, Gowtham Brahmavar, President of the Udupi All College Students Association and others took part in the protest.
The agitators pointed out that the police department had failed in undertaking a transparent probe into the case of murder of Sowjanya and added the incident has caused panic among parents of young girls.
The Association also pointed out that there were doubts if the act was committed by a single person and demanded that the student community wants this case to be probed by the CBI in order to trace the culprits and clear public doubts regarding the case.
The agitators also demanded the arrest of all those responsible for the death of St Ann’s College student Deepika and said so far no action has been taken against the lady doctor who administered the injection to Deepika. It further demanded arrest of all the culprits at the earliest.
