Mangalore : All language Academies, Authorities and Study peetas coming under the department of Kannada and Culture will jointly host a convention, literary and cultural meet in city scheduled to be in April or May said, B A Mohammed Haneef, President of Beary Academy.
He was speaking joint press meet organised by Tulu, Konkani, Kodava and Beary Academy Presidents on October 13, Monday.
He also said that There are 12 Academies in Karnataka, three book authorities and one study peeta and Konkani Academy will take the lead in the convention.
Haneef said that Academies will act as a link between the society and the government to display the cultural. The government must involve the academies while preparing literary and cultural policy and hosting regional ‘samskrithika utsava.’
He also expressed his gratitude to Dakshina Kannada district administration for recognizing the role of Tulu, Beary, Konkani and Arebhashe Academies in the Karavali Utsav. Further the district administration should recognize the role of Kodava Samaja in city and must include all the five academies while hosting Abbakka Utsava. The five academies are further planning to organize cultural utsav in Madikeri, Sullia and Puttur region, he said.
He also urged the government collect opinions from Academy Presidents before selecting names for Karnataka Rajyotsava award.
At present government releases the fund of Rs 65 lakh to each academies the carrying out the programmes every year and if they increase the grant to Rs one crore, then it can give better programmes, he added.
Tulu Academy President Janaki Brahmavar, Konkani Academy President Roy S Castellino, Kodava Academy President Biddatanda S Thammaiah, Beary Academy Registrar Umarabba and Tulu Academy Registrar Chandrahas Rai were present at the press meet.
