Mangalore : Alva’s Visarasat, a 6-day cultural extravaganza, will be inaugurated at Shobha Bhavan in Mijar in Moodubidri on Jan 11, Tuesday, said Dr. M. Mohan Alva, the president of Alva’s Education Foundation, at a press conference held Press Club on Jan 5, Wednesday. Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, the eminent film director, will inaugurate the Virasat Utsav on Jan 11 at 6:00 p.m., he said.
He also said that the event will comprise cultural programmes, adding that the Alva’s Virasat 2011 National Award will be conferred on Padmashree Dr. K. J. Yesudas, the prominent classical singer.
Dr. N. Vinaya Hegde, Nitte group of education institutions, will preside; and the chief guests will be T. C. Shivashankar Moorthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University; Dr. P. Dayananda Pai; K. Abhayachandra Jain, the MLA of Moodubidri; and K. Amarnath Shetty, the former minister, will be the chief guests.
Each day of the Alva’s Virasat, except the day of inauguration, will feature excellent cultural programmes. A ballet titled “Rama Katha Vismaya” will be presented by a team from Abhinava Dance Company in Bangalore led by Nirupama Rajendra on the inauguration day, he said.
A thigal bandi featuring Pamabhooshan Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, Ayan Ali Khan, Amaz Ali Khan, and Pandit Vijay Ghate will be held on Jan 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Rudraksha Foundation of Bhubaneshwar will present a Varnali Odyssey group dance from 8:10 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
A jugalbandhi will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Jan 13. The show will be presented by Pandit Jayatheertha Mevundi, the Hindusthani singer; Vidhwan Abhishek Raghuram, the Karnataka singer; Prof. Narendra L. Kamath; Ramdas Pulsule; Mysore V. Shreekanth; and Ananth R. Krishnan.
