Mangaluru: The 25th edition of annual cultural extravaganza of Alva’s Education Foundation — Alva’s Virasat — will enthral cultural buffs from January 4 to January 6 at Moodbidri near here. Eminent playback singer and music director Hariharan will be presented the Alva’s Virasat Award 2019 on the occasion.
Foundation chairman M. Mohan Alva said the event, as on earlier occasions, would be a treat for music and dance lovers this year too. Mr. Hariharan, a multi-talented personality with expertise in ghazals, devotional and classical music, would get a purse of ₹1 lakh with the award besides a memento and a citation.
Mr. Hariharan has sung in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Telugu films. Born in Thiruvanthapuram, he is also a music composer and has released more than 30 ghazal albums. He has made albums with singer and music director Leslie Lewis under the ‘Colonial Cousins’ banner and has had numerous successful ventures into fusion music. He was presented the Padma Shree in 2004. His Hindi song ‘Mere Dushman Mere Bhai’ from the Bollywood film Border, under the music direction of Anu Malik; and Marathi song Jeev Rangla from the film Jogwa under the music direction of Ajay Atul have bagged national awards.
Nitte Group of Institutions chairman N. Vinay Hegde will inaugurate the programme in the presence of Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, and others at 5.30 p.m. on January 4, after a colourful cultural procession. The Virasat Award would be conferred on Mr. Hariharan on the occasion.
Mr. Hariharan and Mr. Lewis would present Colonial Cousins at Rasa Sanyoga from 7 p.m. on that day followed by Alva’s Samskrutika Vaibhava from 9 p.m. Sukhwinder Singh and a team from Mumbai would present Gana Taranga at 6 p.m. on January 5 followed by Odissi, Kuchipudi dances and Alva’s Samskrutika Vaibhava.
The last day of Virasat would feature Chitra Rasa Sanje by Shankar Mahadevan, Siddarth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan, followed by Bhartanatyam and Alva’s Samskrutika Vaibhava.
