Mangalore : In a sudden explosion near a stone quarry, a woman and her son were killed at Nelligudde, Aikala near Kinnigoli in Mulky on May 4, Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Erichamma (53) and her son Paraman Uttandy (25) hailing from Salem, Tamil Nadu.

It is learnt that, Erichamma and Paraman were resting in their house, during the blast. The impact f the blast was such that roof of house, made of metal and cement sheets, were blown off, destroying the two rooms of the house and the making bodies difficult to identify.

The incident had also injured Erichamma’s neighbour Nagaraj from Shimoga, his wife Yashoda and their 10-year-old daughter Pooja and later they were admitted to a private hospital in Kinnigoli.

It is said that around 20 families hailing from Tamil Nadu, Shimoga and Uttara Kannada are working in the quarry are staying in the vicinity. During the incident, most of the workers had gone to the market to buy the week’s groceries.

A case has been registered in Mulky police station.
