Mangalore : Anganavadi workers under the aegis of the DK District Anganavadi Workers and Helpers Association took out a protest rally from the MCC office to the ZP office on November 30, Friday and even staged a protest in front of the ZP office, in support of several of their demands.
The agitating workers also submitted a memorandum to Shakuntala, Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, seeking early fulfillment of their demands. Some of their demands include hike in salaries of Anganavadi teachers and helpers increase in LPG cylinders provided to the centres, reduction in working hours, provision of various facilities including pension and health benefits.
Bhavani D, Secretary of the Mangalore taluk unit of the Association said the present salary received by the Anganavadi teachers and helpers was far from suffice to meet their requirements. Over 2000 Anganavadi works from Mangalore, Belthangady, Sullia and Puttur took part in the protest.
