Karkala: Karkala police have stopped a possible protest at Belman in Bhaskar Shetty murder accused Niranjan Bhat’s house where his father was about to perform special rituals in the newly built Homa Kunda, on Wednesday at Belman.

Local people gathered in front of Shrinivas Bhat’s house who is father of Niranjan Bhat and an accused in the case, after observing the smoke coming out of his house. Locals were trying to stage protest and before the situation goes out of control Karkala police intervened in the matter and took the situation under control.

Before this also police had made to sit Niranjan Bhat in the police van while he was taken to his house for the investigation. There were chances of attacks by the local people. The local people had cooperated to the police during the investigation.

While police questioned Shrinivas Bhat about the reason for special ritual, he said that his wife is sick and seeking good health of her the rituals are being offered.

Police poured water on the Homa Kunda and warned not to try the same again.

After the murder of Bhaskar Shetty and arrest of Niranjan Bhat and Shrinivas Bhat local people have banned the intervention of these two people in any rituals or special offerings. They are banned from offering prayers at nearby temples also.

Shrinivas Bhat was arrested for destructing the evidences in Bhaskar Shetty murder case and he had succeeded in securing bail from the court. Niranjan Bhat is still in judicial custody.
